![]() Editor's 2-centsEarly deadlines
This week, Farm News has implemented a plan in hopes to get more timely delivery of our newspaper to readers. Our publication dates are on Fridays, but we've long herd reports of some issues not arriving until Saturday, on a good week, and some not until Monday or Tuesday. In order to try and get our paper delivered, through the U.S. Postal Service, we're going to press on Tuesdays, rather than the former Wednesday production day. It's no surprise that the postal service is having its problems. As a result, second-class mail, such as Farm News, is often delayed in deference to first-class mail. This creates a problem for us in timely delivery of advertising, as well as making portions of our calendar of events being obsolete before readers receive them, as well as other hassles. This earlier deadlines puts pressure on all of us involved in producing each issue, but we see the need to print earlier, get our product into the mail sooner, and we hope, we hope, a more timely delivery of each issue to you. Farm News is grateful for the support we get from our subscribers during out twice-annual voluntary pay campaigns. We enjoy hearing how you enjoy reading us and our columnists. Printing earlier is our way of showing our commitment to readers and advertisers. We trust you'll continue to enjoy reading Farm News as myself and seven correspondents -- Darcy Dougherty Maulsby, Kriss Nelson, Clayton Rye, Karen Schwaller, Robyn Kruger, Dave DeValois and Doug Clough -- all work to stay on the cutting edge of farm reporting and developments, as well as find those rural features that makes us unique. May the road always rise to meet you and may your Farm News dwell in your mailbox on Fridays. Thanks, as always, for your support.
